It's interesting that people seem to have forgotten/gotten over the whole Glasshole "rejection/anger" against Google glasses ~10years ago. Maybe it would have been more socially acceptable even back then if they hadn't made them look sci-fi and instead like regular glasses.

I think it was an old issue of National Lampoon (and I have no idea what they would be parodying) that showed an old-timey cathedral-style radio in a child's pull-wagon, like some kind of advert from the 1920's. "Portable Radio is Here!" or similar for the caption…

It was 10 years ago. Today's preteens were infants then. Today's university students were preteens. Today's parents of infants were university students. Things change. Time destroys everything.
...which has not been declared taboo through religious or cultural institutions. Time for those institutions to step up and declare a ban on networked surveillance devices. As long as the processing is all local and none of the gathered intel is shipped out to the mothership or the highest bidder (viz. Gargoyles from Snow Crash) they're fine but it should be legal to punch anyone in the nose who wears corporate spy-eyes.
I was tracking this as part of an older job and this has been the case for some years now - started around the Covid time with all the scalping bots etc and has just been building up.
This sorta mirrors the early-mid 2010's when people[1] were worried about how much of the internet was streaming traffic.

This year it is the Middle East crisis. Last year it was probably a glut because there was shortage the year previously.
This makes it seem like they really like the Anthropic product and are using it quite a bit more than the others? Or is it just me making random connections?
What happens if the OpenAI failure is because of lack of demand from their customers and the market in general? None of the AI providers or hardware providers will survive, no?
Block the AWS IP ranges. You will have reasonably good results blocking all datacenter ranges - cloud providers, VPSs etc., if you don't expect traffic from them. You can get the ranges from Udger (paid) and it isn't very bad w.r.to false positives. Alternatively just whitelist expected regions and block everything else. More false positives prone, but easier.
I'll probably pay 10 - 20% more for an "old school" hotel room with a clock radio and standard phone to call the front desk. No other "non-essential" electronics other than multiple well-placed power points. No TV, Coffee Machine either.
The number of bright screens on random "smart" controls that I'm trying very hard to hide before sleeping are too much.
And you will because "entrepreneurial" chains like Hyatt will lower their prices thanks to the additional revenue they get from this and other unexpected charges in order to attract more customers.
20 years ago, when I first started working, Wipro and HCL Tech had been talking about making the outsourcing model into "factory-like assembly lines." This fizzled out very quickly back then, but I guess it is now coming to fruition :-|
