Sure, it's still a hard problem, like carpentry is a hard problem. I've never had to do it because it's been solved for 20 years, but I'm fairly sure I'd get great at it if it were my day job.
loading data into a hash table is a solved problem. coming up with clever ways of solving problems that are beyond the scale of today's computers is the challenging, interesting part.
